Invoking Change, Part 3

by Ron Davis on November 5, 2008

Last night via text messages on my Blackberry while watching election coverage, I discussed with a friend this third and final point – Running for Office.

We need change.  I don’t mean this “change” that Barack Obama has been calling for.  We don’t need bigger government, more spending, tax increases.  We need real, dramatic change in policy that neither Senator McCain or President-elect Obama called for in their campaigns.  We need candidates who will step up and be a strong conservative voice in the middle of an overwhelmingly liberal political scene.

To expect either major party – both leaning more and more to the left – to suddenly offer a candidate interested in fiscal responsibility is a bit much.  It won’t happen – not suddenly, but it can happen.

We need to start small.  I’ve said it before: real change in our nation’s political scene will start at the local level.  We need real conservatives who are ready to make a difference to run for local office.  We need them to lead by example, show their towns and communities that small government really does work.

Of those local leaders, many will remain in place, continuing to serve their communities.  Some, however, will move to state-level positions, and others may move to positions in Washington.  But it has to start locally.

Are you a future candidate for office?  Consider running in the next election.  Do you have friends who could be a good conservative elected official?  Encourage them to run for office.  We can bring change.  We must.  The future of our nation demands it.  The time to act is now.

I’ve decided that I will help be a part of change in the Republican Party.  This Saturday morning, for the first time, I will attend a local Republican meeting and begin to be more politically active in my community.

Will you join me?
