This morning my friend Shane and I attended the Paulding Republicans monthly meeting. I had never been to any official political gathering, and I was interested to see what goes on in those meetings.
This first meeting after the general election was under unique circumstances. The Republicans took a pretty big beating this week on a national level, and we’ve got a pretty important runoff election in about a month.
There was a lot of talk about the Senate runoff – Saxby Chambliss versus Jim Martin. Saxby has been a RINO in office, and his Chairman for Paulding County was talking about his return to true conservative values. At this point, I’m skeptical, but I hope he’s getting the message. We’ll see what the next few weeks bring.
State Senator David Shafer spoke about our water supply issues. I now know more about Georgia’s water supply problems than I ever thought possible. Mike Sheffield, who is in the runoff for the Court of Appeals, spoke for a moment about his runoff election.
Overall, it was no overly exciting meeting, but I was absolutely thrilled to be there. I can’t expect my party to change if I’m not willing to get out and work to change it. I’ll be going to the next meeting as well. My understanding is that it’ll be in January. If you’re in Paulding County and want to go get involved, let me know, and I’ll make sure you get the information.
I’m also going to try to attend some of the GOP rallies in the area as the Senate runoff gets closer. If you want to go with me, let me know.
