Is Nathan Deal Really Running For Governor?

by Ron Davis on October 12, 2009

Last night I was reading more about my two remaining choices in the 2010 Georgia Governors race, when I realized that I didn’t know anything about Nathan Deal.  He has a campaign website that says he’s in the race, that he’s a Republican, and that you can donate to the campaign.  Oh, and he’s “Real.”  But is he really running in this race?

Deal doesn’t have any place on his web site (that I could find) that talks about his approach to any of the issues in the race.  What about water?  What about states rights?  What about the 2nd amendment? These are some of the things I’d think voters would want to know about.  We could make assumptions, but I’m not giving my vote to any candidate I have to make assumptions about.

Honestly, I’d just move on and not give him another thought, but I’ve been told he’s got Phil Gingrey’s support.  Having Gingrey on his side won’t automatically get Deal my vote, but I respect Phil Gingrey’s opinion enough to give Deal fair consideration.

The problem is that I can’t find out anything about Nathan Deal. I signed up for his mailing list about a month ago and haven’t heard a peep from the Deal camp.  I’ve checked his web site several times in the last month, but I’ve not seen any change (except for his schedule of appearances).  I haven’t even seen other candidates talking about how they’re more qualified than Deal.

So, if you’ll pardon a really bad pun, what’s the deal?  Is he really running?  Where does he stand?  Would any other candidates (or their supporters) like to weigh in on Nathan Deal? I’d like to give Deal a chance to get my vote before I go get active in another candidate’s campaign.

Nathan Deal has been ranked one of the 15 most corrupt members of Congress for several years now. That’s mostly a result of the shady business deal he’s made between his company and Georgia’s government for 20 years. Within the past two weeks, however, he ended the deal in order to protect his chance of becoming governor, but the fact is still there that he is corrupt.

Personally, I’m supporting Karen Handel because she is responsible, fiscally conservative, has an outstanding ethics record, and she has a record of accomplishment that is unmatched among her opponents. Her policy is solid and her resume backs it up.

Hey Ric, thanks for stopping by. I talked to Ray McBerry this weekend, and when I said I had some issues with Handel, he interrupted me and went out of his way to say that Karen is a really great person. I think that speaks volumes of both of them.

I won’t be voting for her, but we could definitely do worse. See my post on John Oxendine for details on that. :)
