My friend Chris and I left work a little early on Tuesday morning to drive up to Canton where a meeting of the Cherokee Patriots was taking place. One of the portions of the meeting (and the reason we drove up) was an opportunity to hear from Ray McBerry, one of the several Republicans running for governor.
What an exciting, refreshing, and encouraging evening Tuesday turned out to be. Talking with Ray a little was nice (I swear he’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met), but being a nice guy doesn’t qualify you to be governor.
What does qualify you to be governor? I’m glad you asked. Here are some of the issues he mentioned the other night and my opinion of each of them.
Strong stand on Georgia’s sovereignty – The federal government should answer to the states, not the other way around.
Extremely Pro-Life – It is Georgia’s responsibility to actively protect the unborn.
Abolish Income and Property Taxes – Taxing people on what they make and on what they own is morally wrong.
Protect the 2nd Amendment – God gave me the right to bear arms, the 2nd Amendment recognizes that right, and the state should protect that right.
Georgia’s Water Issues – Georgia’s water is Georgia’s water. We can work with neighboring states to share (and I think we should), but the federal government has no place in the matter. Water in Georgia belongs to Georgia.
There wasn’t one thing about the issues McBerry said that I disagreed with. I’m not used to finding a name on a ballot that I can agree with on every issue. So the bumper stickers went on the cars this week, and I’m all signed up to help out the McBerry team here in Paulding County.
Those elections in 2010 will be here before we know it. You should get a head start on finding out about the candidates in this race and find which candidate you believes best represents Georgia’s best interests going forward. You can (and should!) find out about Ray McBerry at his web site.

Ron, I would be the first to agree with you that Ray McBerry ia a nice guy. The problem I have with his campaign is that his platform sounds as though he should be running for congress or the Senate instead of Governor. His issues of wanting to abolish the Federal Reserve, the income tax system, recriminalizing abortion, etc. are issues that need to be addressed at the Federal level, not the state level. His claim Georgias water belongs to Georgians is niave thinking. That water belonged to another state before it flowed into Georgia. What if they suddenly decided to cut off our water supply? Would that be right? And lets not forget, it was federal funds which built Lake Lanier and Buford Dam. It is also Federal dollars which continue to operate, and mantain both. We need a governor who understands our states complex problems and is willing to work with other agencies to remedy those problems, including the federal government and the governors of our surrounding states. As nice as he is , Ray McBerry comes nowhere close to being prepared for the job of being Georgias next Governor. He should stick to his calling and return to preaching or being a radio talk show host, where he was good at both.
Hey Ron,
Thanks for stopping by again.
Abolishing the Federal Reserve and the issues with the federal income tax system are definitely issues that need to be addressed at a higher level. Abortion needs to be addressed at a federal level in that Roe v. Wade needs to be overturned, but making abortion illegal or not is an issue for the states to decide.
On the water issue, I didn’t mean to imply that we shouldn’t share with neighboring states. I see now how the post could have been read that way, but that’s not what I meant. My point (or at least the point I was trying to make) is that the federal government has no business telling Georgia where our water will or will not go. We should definitely work with neighboring states, because they need water, too; but our next Governor should understand that the decision is for Georgia, not for anybody in Washington.
Ron Davis, Thanks for the update on seeing Ray McBerry in Cherokee, I was not able to go.
He is the most refreshing person we’ve had in Georgia for Decades. You are right, he is for Georgia. Not Atlanta, Not Washington D.C. Let’s get back to what George Washington and all back then wanted for this country. Let me also point out that our First President, was not a “Celebrity” like the one we have now, in case you people forgot, he was a Revolutionary War Hero!
Ray McBerry is the only true candidate who cares about Georgia, oh and I have to add, Ray does not want to be a “Celebrity”, he wants to be our Governor.
Obviously, life, people in America are way out of control. And yes, it looks like it needs to start at the State level. Look at Texas, their Governor feels the same way. And Alaska, Sarah Palin did so much for that State, that most people are unaware of, all they seem to care about was what outfit she was wearing or other stupid things of that nature….
Thanks for all you are doing Ron, to help educate the people of Georgia.
I like Ray as well. The problem I have is that he has no political experience at all. His positions on issues are very similiar, if not identical, to those of John Oxendine.
Melissa, I challenge you to take a closer look at Ray’s position on the issues. You’ll see he’s very different from John Oxendine.
To Melissa Trail & others,
Ray has no Political Experience? Well, that could be an advantage, too. Then He’ll owe no one any favors or be inclined to in the future. He is a Christian, so that make him honest. Wow! How refreshing! Someone Honest. A Governor or Politition who just wants to help our State become the great EMPIRE STATE it used to be. Aren’t you-all tired of the same people, same agendas? Is’nt it time for a change?
Also, I’d like to point out that Ray has been a business owner for several years, so that in itself gives him great knowledge of what works and what doesn’t. Hard earned knowledge, by the way. There is nothing like hands on experience in business. Melissa, I am not attacking you, you’re first sentence says it all ” I like Ray McBerry “., so educate yourself and others about this hard working man who wants to bring back Values to our State. Respectfully, Cindy Rambeau
