As the party in power comes to the 2010 midterm elections, they’re concerned about a few races. Here are a few:
- Chris Dodd – his disapproval rating is getting better, but it’s still a big concern. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pulling for Peter Schiff in Connecticut.
- Roland Burris (Obama’s seat) – Republicans have an unusual chance to pick up a seat here, given the Chicago politics that have been at play here.
- Harry Reid – He’s got a big pile of money, but he’s seen by the majority as an ineffective leader.
- Arlen Specter – I’m pulling hard for Toomey in Pennsylvania. Maybe Toomey will beat Specter now that he’s officially on the other side of the aisle.
- Delaware (Biden’s seat) – This one could get ugly. I’d love to see the GOP take this one and Obama’s seat. What an interesting statement that would be.
- Blanche Lincoln – People in Arkansas aren’t happy with federal spending, and it shows in the polls between her hypothetical Republican challengers.
- Michael Bennet – Bennet faces viable challengers in the primary and the general elections.
- Byron Dorgan – He has no real challenge yet, but GOP Governor John Hoeven could make it interesting.
Those are just some of the individual races, and these don’t include the House elections or Governors races. With an obvious swing toward the GOP (or away from the Democrats, depending on how you see it) this past week, the Democrats will need to pick their battles and focus where they know they have to win. Otherwise they’re in for some serious upsets in 2010.
This is just an abbreviated list. The same list, with some more detail is available here.
