It's amazing how many adamant pro-life voters are men. It's easy to be 100% pro-life when you know that your stance will never actually affect you personally. How short-sighted you all are to base your decision on only one issue THAT WILL NEVER BE CHANGED. Sadly, abortion will always be legal in the United States. I wonder how many of you have done anything to attack the problem at its root rather than simply voting "Pro-Life." It must make you guys feel quite satisfied to project your sanctimonious position on abortion, yet in reality I would wager that none of you has ever done anything to actually reduce the number of abortions performed daily. Hint - voting "Pro-Life" has no effect on the number of abortions performed. The only difference between Republicans and Democrats these days are which part of our lives they want to control.

Ray McBerry is a disgrace to the Republican party, the state of Georgia, and all good men in general. He should go back to the hole he crawled out of. Whether he had any type of sexual contact with the girl is irrelevant to me. The events he described himself are typical of a pedophile, and that's enough for me to condemn him.

tonycatch - 2 things.

First, all the craziness around McBerry is a bunch of he said vs. she said. There's no real factual evidence of anything. Did it happen? I don't know. I don't think so, but I don't know for sure any more than you do. Accusing Ray of preying of 13 year old girls is absurd.

Second, I wrote this piece on Karen in November. I'm no longer in the McBerry camp, but that change has nothing to do with the allegations about Ray that you mentioned. I'm currently undecided in the gubernatorial race, but I do know that my vote will go to a real pro-life candidate.

Why are you endorsing a child predator? He protects the child in the womb, but as soon as they turn 13, he preys on them. McBerry should be ashamed of himself. Giving her a cell phone so they can talk secretly? Would you allow a grown man to to this to your daughter? Nice choice for governor...Barnes would love to have him as an opponent. His 1% polling and support from nut-jobs will never get him elected.

Ron, I agree. The issue is exactly about liberty. We must protect and defend the liberty of all people. A pregnant woman considering an abortion has (in most cases - but not all), already made a choice on what to do with her body. That choice has resulted in the creation of another living human being, endowed by its Creator with the same rights as the mother. And even in the rarer instances when the pregnancy was not chosen (rape or incest), as tragic as it is for the mother to have endured the horror of the act and the temporary abuse of her personal liberty, it is an even greater tragedy to add on to it the taking of the life which resulted from the act and thus the permanent abuse of the personal liberty of the innocent child. If only people could understand that, I'm sure they would revisit their pro-choice opinions. Even after having the child, there is always the option to put it up for adoption by one of the many couples who long for a child of their own, but who lack that gift. This is a decision which by God's grace converts a poor life choice or even an act of horror into an act of pure love.

Hey Bill,

I understand your approach of protecting a woman's liberty, but the protection of life should have a higher priority. We can't define life based on circumstances around conception. Life is life, and all life should be protected.

Thanks for the comment. I appreciate your insight on this issue.

I'm interested in how you mesh your pro-life (government involvement in a woman's decision to have an abortion) and you other postings that declare you are a "conservative" who wants government out of the lives of people? You want to "uphold liberty," only if it's something you agree with. So only liberty you like, then, is worth upholding? Could you begin to possibly imagine the choice that a woman would have to make after being raped or molested, then told she is pregnant has to go through? She might choose to end the pregnancy or she might not, but in a society based on "liberty," shouldn't SHE be the one making the decision, not someone like yourself that has not real involvement?
