Something Beautiful Happened at a GOP Meeting Today

by Ron Davis on May 15, 2010

When I first became active with the local GOP here in Paulding County, one of the first people I met was Vernon Collett.  He, like me, had become frustrated with his party and was looking to get plugged in locally to help bring some (very badly needed) change to the Republican Party.

Vernon and I have had some pretty in-depth discussions on some issues over the past couple of years.  Though I don’t see Vernon as often as I’d like, he and I have become friends, and I’m always glad to get a chance to talk with him.

Today I saw him do something that was amazing, inspirational, and encouraging.  I saw Vernon step out of his comfort zone to try to bring change to his local government. Vernon is running for Post 3 Commissioner in Paulding County.

Vernon was nervous; there’s no doubt about that.  But he shared with us an honest and direct message about who he is and what he believes.  His speech really resonated with people in the room, and he received the largest applause of any of the speakers of the meeting.

I expect to look back at today’s Paulding County GOP meeting as a watershed day in my life.  A local businessman has answered the call to change his government and stand on principle for the betterment of his county, and that’s a beautiful thing.

If you live in Post 3, I ask you – I beg you – to vote for Vernon this July.  Having Vernon Collett on the Board of Commissioners will be good for all of Paulding County – not just Post 3.

(And if you don’t know which Post you’re in, send me an email [ron at uphold liberty dot org], and I’ll help you figure it out.)
